College Counseling

As part of its services, the Student Services Department provides a full range of college and career placement services. The primary focus is on setting students up for success beyond high school. Saint Patrick counselors collaborate with parents and students to help graduates achieve their educational and career goals and to prepare students for post-secondary success.

4-YEAR COLLEGE COUNSELING CALENDAR

  • FRESHMAN YEAREstablish a strong academic foundation, get involved with extracurricular activities, support students with study skills and time management, helping them strive towards independence and accountability in and out of the classroom.
  • SOPHOMORE YEARBegin using Naviance Student. Build upon their freshmen year GPA. Continue involvement in extracurricular activities, service and begin career exploration. Plan junior year courses to fit which colleges or careers interested in pursuing after graduation.
  • JUNIOR YEARFocus on college planning. All juniors should take a college placement test (ACT or SAT) in late winter or early spring of their junior year. Option to take take the PSAT/NMSQT exam in October to qualify as a National Merit Scholar. Develop college application strategies and timelines. Career exploration for those not pursuing a four-year college. Attend college visits and job shadow.
  • SENIOR YEARDetermine future and after high school plans. Assist each student with all aspects of applying to college, career plans and scholarship opportunities. Assist each student in determining the right college fit.
