The Saint Patrick soccer team earned a third-place finish in the LaSallian Cup Soccer Invitational over the weekend.
After falling to Latin by a score of 2-1 in their opening game, the Shamrocks rebounded with three consecutive victories over Speer Academy (2-0), DeLaSalle (7-1) and Muchin (1-0)
The Shamrocks are now 5-1 overall for the season, and are off to one of the best starts ever for the St. Pat’s soccer program.
Coach Kyle McClure credits the early success to his young team’s chemistry.
“We really have an ideal combination of guys,” the third-year coach explained. “We have five talented senior leaders who are tired of losing, and we have five talented freshmen players who are used to winning. When you combine the two, the result is a confident and resilient team.”
Junior midfielder Finn Elsmo is excited about the future of the Shamrock soccer program.
“It’s pretty crazy how much we’ve improved compared to two years ago. Our team is still really young, and we will keep getting better and better.”
The Soccer Shamrocks have a challenging schedule ahead of them. Starting this Wednesday, they will face off with St. Viator in their first East Suburban Catholic Conference match of the season. After that, they will be competing in the Pepsi Showdown, the largest high school soccer tournament in the country.
