For the second consecutive year, the Shamrocks varsity football team opened their season at Soldier Field vs St Rita on Friday, August 25.
Senior Joey Lombardi scored the Shamrock’s first TD with 1:35 left in the 1st quarter to tie the game 7-7. With 7:21 left in the 2nd quarter, senior quarterback Brett Rosenbusch connected with junior Xavier Saldana for a TD but St Rita took a 28-14 lead into the half. Junior Michael Crawford scored St. Pat’s only TD in the second half and the Shamrocks fell to St Rita 49-21. Click here to view photos from the game.
Saint Patrick Head Coach Adam Guerra says despite the loss his young team showed signs of a bright future and will only get better and better. “The conditioning was good and the plays were there,” said Guerra, “we just need to execute them.”
With only three returning starters on offense and four on defense, Guerra, in his first game as the Shamrocks head coach, says, “We’re a young team but we’ll take advantage of the players we have and keep grinding.”
Guerra adds, “It’s always good to get back to game two especially after dropping game one.” The Shamrocks will do just that as they look to rebound against Glenbrook South.
Saint Patrick will play at Glenbrook South tonight at 7:30 pm.
