This past weekend, Saint Patrick varsity basketball co-hosted the annual Thanksgiving Tournament with Glenbrook North going 3-1 to earn third place.
The Shamrocks defeated Douglas in their opening game on Tuesday by a score of 66-18. Sophomore Joe Fanning led the way with 14 points and six rebounds with Austin Freeman ’19 and Andrej Cady ’19 each contributing eight points.
Saint Patrick defeated Payton 53-45 on Wednesday going 8-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Jakob Medina ’19 had 15 points with Fanning adding 11 points and seven rebounds. The Shamrock’s only loss in the tournament came against DeLaSalle on Friday. Freeman had 21 points, four assists and three steals in the 60-47 loss.
On Saturday, Saint Patrick played Hoffman Estates for third place winning the game 59-52. Four players were in double digits: Chris Lara ’18, (12), Freeman (12), Medina (11) and Justin Walker ’19 (10) with Fanning adding six points and eight rebounds. In addition to earning third place in the tournament, three Shamrocks (Freeman, Medina and Fanning) were named to the All-Tournament team.
Head Coach Mike Bailey says he loves his team’s energy and ability to keep grinding – it’s connectedness and toughness. Bailey said, “No coach in the state enjoys coaching his team as much as I enjoy coaching these guys.”
Saint Patrick will play a non-conference game this Saturday, December 2 at Taft High School. Tip-off is 2:30 pm.
