The 158th school year at Saint Patrick began Tuesday, August 14th with a robust group of young men from 70 different schools in the Chicagoland area as the newest members of the Shamrock family. The Class of 2022, with an increase of 20 students from last year’s incoming class, is part of an upward trend in enrollment at the premier all-male Catholic high school in Chicago.
“Enrollment has been steady and strong for the past six years,” said President of Saint Patrick High School, Dr. Joseph G. Schmidt, AFSC. “This is quite an accomplishment considering enrollment at Catholic high schools in Chicago and across the country is decreasing.”
Of the 185 students in the freshman class, 42 students tested into and received merit-based scholarships. Twenty-nine of the newest Shamrocks are legacy students (which means their father or grandfather attended Saint Patrick High School) and are eligible for a Legacy Academic Scholarship and at least 45 students are sons of first responders and Catholic school employees who qualified for the Father Thomas A. Mulcrone First Responders Scholarship and Catholic Identity Scholarship.
As Saint Patrick High School continues to grow and offer unique, state-of-the art programs, including the entrepreneurship program (INCubatoredu) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) to adjust to today’s student’s needs, it remains committed to attracting young men who are ready to embrace the school’s mission to develop their maximum potential as lifelong learners and assets to society and the Church.
“Our goal in Admissions is to find the right type of student and right families for Saint Patrick High School,” says Brian O’Connor ’05, Director of Admissions. “Based on the excitement in the building about this year’s freshman class from everyone including administration, faculty and staff to our coaches, I think we’ve accomplished that mission.”
