Dan Galante has resigned as the head football coach at Saint Patrick High School.
As the longest-tenured coach in the history of the Shamrocks football program, Galante compiled 77 wins and eight playoff appearances over his 16 seasons at the helm. Under his guidance, hundreds of St. Pat’s football players continued their football careers at the college level, and two were drafted into the NFL.
Galante, who was handed the reigns to the Shamrocks program in 2001, referred to his resignation as “the hardest thing he has ever had to do.”
“I decided that it is in the best interest of the program that there be a change in leadership,” he said. “As a head coach, you have to make tough decisions, and I believe now is the time for a change. … Thank you to all of you who supported my efforts and supported the football program.”
Galante – who served as the defensive coordinator at North Park University before taking over the Shamrocks football program – will continue to work with the Saint Patrick Admissions Team and will maintain his role as a physical education teacher at the school.
St. Patrick Athletic Director Brian Glorioso said he is thankful for Galante’s many years of service, and is proud of the fact that he was able to make such a large impact on so many student-athletes over the years.
“Dan’s success on the football field helped reverse the fortunes of program, but that’s not the only thing he’ll be remembered for,” Glorioso said. “The connections he made with our kids has led them to success both on and off the field, and those lessons will never be forgotten.”
St. Pat’s has formed a search committee to find its next head coach and has already begun accepting applications. Click here for more information, or email bglorioso@stpatrick.org.
