Four Shamrocks qualified for IHSA sectionals after yesterday’s regionals held at Links at Carillon Golf Course in Plainfield. Ten teams participated in the event, hosted by Montini Catholic High School, with Saint Patrick finishing 4th.
The team shot a season best score of 318. With their outstanding play, four Shamrock golfers advanced to sectionals, the next round of the state tournament. The four Shamrocks advancing are: James Leane ’18, Jack Murphy ’18, Mike Donovan ’19, and Jake Bednarek ’20.
Senior James Leane earned a medal for his 5th place score of 75. He shot an even par 36 on the front and missed out on an eagle on #18 by less than an inch. His 140-yard approach shot stopped just before the cup allowing him to tap in for birdie..
Senior Jack Murphy played his best round of the season and shot 82 to finish 23rd in the field of 60.
Junior Mike Donovan shot a 3 under 33 on the back 9 which was the best 9-hole score of anyone in the tournament. Donovan carded a 76 for the round and just missed earning a medal by 1 stroke
Sophomore Jake Bednarek shot a varsity personal best score of 84. He tied with two golfers from Glenbard South for the last individual spot for sectionals. Bednarek went on to win the 5-hole sudden death playoff by parring the 5th hole.
Seniors Will Ferraris and Jack Dunne both finished with 91 on the day.
Sectionals will be hosted by Lemont High School at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport on Monday, October 9.
