Saint Patrick soccer player Finn Elsmo ’18 recently completed a prestigious leadership program for high school athletes.
The rising junior spent a week in Delaware at the Strive Sports Challenge, where he and 23 other high school male soccer players from across the country worked together to further develop their skills as student-athletes and teammates, both on and off the field.
Through exercise, skill development and team bonding, Elsmo said he had the “best week of his life” learning leadership skills that he plans to bring back to Saint Patrick.
During his time in the program, Elsmo learned different ways to motivate teammates, solve problems and speak up when the time is right.
Elsmo heard about the program through a family friend and had wanted to enroll for years. He is the first student-athlete to take part in the program, which is also open to high school basketball and lacrosse players.
St. Pat’s soccer coach Kyle McClcure is excited to get back on the field with Elsmo, who has already established himself as an important part of the Shamrocks soccer program.
“Finn has really helped shaped the current identity of our soccer team,” McClure said. “Our guys want to be more competitive. We want to impress people with our play and start consistently beating quality programs. Finn was one of our first guys to embrace that, if we’re motivated and dedicated, we can do great things together.”
