310 Beginning Band

1.0 credit/De La Salle weight

This course is open to students with very little or no previous band experience who have an interest in learning how to play a band instrument. Students will learn the fundamental techniques associated with their instruments as well as basic music reading skills and perform in two concerts during the school year. All performances, while outside of class hours, are considered a part of the course requirements and attendance is expected. Beginning Band students are expected to have their own instrument with selection determined upon consideration with the band instructor. Band instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, guitar, bass guitar, and percussion. There is a limit to how many instruments of each kind that a band can have, so flexibility in selection is desired.
