Current Shamrocks and young alumni raised more than $3,000 for Saint Patrick High School by donating the tips they earned while working as caddies at the Shamrock Golf Outing.
A total of 39 caddies, including a handful on Evans Scholars, contributed to the effort.
“I’m so proud that our Shamrocks are so willing to give back and support their high school,” Saint Patrick President Dr. Joe Schmidt said. “It’s great to see St. Pat’s students and alumni looking out for one another, and having a great time together on the golf course.”
Evans Scholars David Krebs ’14, a junior at Purdue, and Karol Szuster ’14, a junior at Northern Illinois, were among the caddies working at Ridgemoor Country Club on June 13. They were both thrilled to be a part of the event and excited for the opportunity to support their high school.
“It was really a no-brainer to give back to the school that has given so much to me,” Krebs said. “St. Pat’s has helped me in so many ways. There’s no way I would have been able to go to Purdue without the Evans Scholarship.”
Szuster was thinking along the same lines. In addition to being happy to give back, he also cherished the opportunity to get to know the fellow Saint Patrick alumni participating in the golf outing.
“It was great. We all had a connection through St. Pat’s,” he said. “It was nice to talk with the fellow Shamrocks and compare our high school experiences.”
