FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Chicago, IL, December 1, 2022) – Saint Patrick High School, the premier all-male Catholic high school in Chicago, is proud to announce that John Martell ’73 and Tom Shallcross ’02 have been appointed to the Board of Trustees.

“John and Tom are two alumni who bring a wealth of expertise and a commitment and passion for Saint Patrick High School,” said Dan Santucci ’02, serving in his second year as president. “They bring new and innovative ideas to help implement our vision both now and for many years to come. I am humbled and honored to have them join our supportive Board of Trustees.”

John Martell, an executive in the electrical engineering industry for over 40 years, is the current Chairman, CEO and President of Martell Services Group, Inc., an electrical, mechanical and specialty contracting firm in South Bend, Indiana.

A partner and/or owner in a number of commercial real estate properties and developments, John is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1977 and a Certificate in Executive Management in 1999.

Martell previously served on the Board of Trustees for St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN, Madison Center and Hospital, and Roseland Rotary Club. In addition, he has been a member of the Engineering Advisory Council for the University of Notre Dame School of Engineering since 2000. He has also served in advisory roles for several community organizations including South Bend Center for the Homeless and South Bend Boys and Girls Club.

“I am honored to have been asked to join the Board of Trustees of Saint Patrick High School,” Martell said. “I look forward to being able to support the school for current and future students. It’s been more than 50 years since I entered Saint Patrick as a freshman, and I am thankful for the great foundation it provided for my development into the person I am today.”

Tom Shallcross, a full-time Chicago real estate investor, founded and operates Now Serving Properties – a real estate development company that has transacted on over $30M worth of real estate on Chicago’s northside. He also leads acquisitions and operations for Drexel Properties, a Chicago-based company that owns and operates over 600 apartment units.

Shallcross, the founder and co-host of the Straight Up Chicago Investor Podcast, graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Finance and Speech Communication and went on to obtain his MBA from Benedictine University.

A current member of the Institutional Advancement Committee, Shallcross previously served as Alumni Board President for five years. Tom is an active father of four children who attend St. Elizabeth of the Trinity on the northwest side, including two future Shamrocks – classes of 2038 and 2041.

“I’ve stayed involved at St. Pat’s as I feel indebted for the opportunities it provided me,” said Shallcross. “I’m excited to expand my support for 5900 W. Belmont as a board member and to ensure others can experience the same benefits and opportunities I was afforded.”

“We are thrilled to add John and Tom, who embody the spirit of Saint Patrick and are prepared to serve in this important role for the school,” said Michael G. O’Rourke ’86, Board Chairman. “They join a dedicated group of professionals who make up the current Board of Trustees and are committed to continuing the Lasallian mission of Saint Patrick.”
