Below are results for Shamrock Athletics this past weekend.

Basketball

Saint Patrick Hoops (18-6, 6-2) defeated Nazareth Academy on the road 64-56 on Friday 2/14. Senior Dominic Galati scored 24 and sophomore Timaris Brown added 15. Sophomores and Freshmen also won for an ESCC conference program sweep.

Shamrocks travel to OPRF tonight for non-conference action and will play their last regular season home game on Friday 2/21 vs. Marian Central. Senior basketball players, cheerleaders and dancers will be honored prior to the 7 pm Varsity game. Saint Patrick will host the IHSA Regionals the week of March 2nd.

Hockey

Shamrock Hockey defeated Fox Valley on Wednesday 2/12 to advance to the final four on Saturday 2/15 before losing to Crystal Lake South 4-2 to end their season. Shamrocks finished in 5th place and junior Jacob Janata led the league with 18 regular season goals. The team finished 8-10-3 in regular season play, 1-2 in the playoffs and 1-3 in tournaments for an overall record f 10-15-3.

Swimming

On Tuesday 2/11, Shamrocks defeated Notre Dame 155-105 and Mt. Carmel 161-99. Varsity won 9 of 11 events and JV had a clean sweep with Shamrocks winning every event. Shamrock Swimming also celebrated their nine seniors and their families on Senior Night.

Shamrocks will compete in the IHSA Sectionals on Saturday.

Track & Field

Shamrock Track & Field competed at Maine South on Wednesday 2/12 vs. Maine South and Notre Dame with Varsity finishing in 2nd. First year hurdler junior Anthony Salinas finished 2nd in the 50m High Hurdles and 3rd place in the 55m Low Hurdles. Sophomore Jayden Griffin finished 2nd in the 400m Dash.

Frosh/Soph finished in 3rd led by sophomore Jeremy Mendyk with a 1st place finish and personal best in the shot put. Sophomore Nevin Orleans finished 1st in the 400m Dash and sophomore Braden Kumiega finished 3rd in both the 50m High Hurdles and 55m Low Hurdles. Freshman Liam MacLellan ran the mile in 5 minutes and 14 seconds, finishing 3rd in a stacked field.

Shamrocks next meet is Saturday 2/22 at Auburn High School in Rockford.

Wrestling

St. Pat’s Wrestling had some great performances at the IHSA Sectional Tournament at Deerfield High School this past weekend. The Shamrocks had eight wrestlers competing, qualifying three for the IHSA State Tournament. The three state qualifiers:

Sean Conway ’22: 2nd place at 113 lbs
Alex Goworoski ’22: 4th place at 182 lbs
Ronald Krewer ’20: 4th place at 220 lbs

The IHSA State Tournament will begin on Thursday, February 20th at 12 pm and will be wrestled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
