Saint Patrick High School is proud to announce two students have been recognized through the National Merit Scholarship program.

Seniors Gabriel Morales and Samuel Perez were named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

In addition, both Morales and Perez have been recognized by the College Board as National Hispanic Scholars based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. This recognition is given to 5,000 of the 250,000 students who take the PSAT/NMSQT each year. Morales, a graduate of St. Frances of Rome, is president of the National Honor Society at Saint Patrick, vice president of student council, president of the Model UN Club and a member of the Spanish Club and Academic Team. He plans to major in History or Pre-Law in college. Perez, who attended St. Pascal and is actively involved in Robotics at the school, plans to pursue his degree in Health Sciences in preparation for medical school and a career as a cardiologist.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” according to a NMSC spokesperson. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”

This is the third consecutive year Saint Patrick High School has received recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program.
